Exhibition dates: July 2-October 25, 2015
Seven artists and one artist collective have been selected to participate in the Honolulu Museum of Art’s biennial Artists of Hawai‘i. The artists now have nine months to create work, which will be on view July 2 to October 25, 2015.
In September, museum director Stephan Jost, deputy director Allison Wong, and contemporary art curator James Jensen made their selections from 249 artists who submitted work to be considered for Artists of Hawai‘i 2015.
About the jurying process, James Jensen says, “During the first round we looked at all the images in large size without information on the artists, titles, media, etc., just to get a sense of the entries overall. With each subsequent round we honed the selection down, to 50, to 35, then 16, looking at artists’ background information and statements. We ended up with seven artists and a collective comprising four artists whom we feel represent a good combination of range of media, techniques, and visions. The final selection includes some known artists, as well as some who are relatively new on the scene, similar to the mix of talents in Artists of Hawaiʻi 2013.”
