Culture specific tours focus on one area of the collection and are scheduled at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Docents engage students in gallery discussion on the art and culture for one hour.
Art of Asia

The Honolulu Museum of Art's Chinese Courtyard sets the mood for an overview of the museum’s outstanding collection of Asian art in a variety of media spanning 5,000 years. You can request your tour to include all of the following galleries, or focus on specific areas: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.

Students explore the cultural heritage of the world’s oldest continuous civilization as reflected in the Museum's comprehensive collection of sacred and secular Chinese art from the Neolithic age to the present. Painting, ceramics, textiles and/or furniture will be discussed.

The Museum’s collection of European art encompasses objects from ancient to modern times. The tour includes art from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, sculpture, painting and tapestries from the Middle Ages and Renaissance, decorative arts and prints, and well-known paintings by Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters.

Students tour the Art of Hawai‘i gallery, an overview of works that range from pre-contact to the present. They learn about indigenous art, kapa, landscapes, Volcano School painting, portraits and decorative arts. Objects from Melanesia, Polynesia and Micronesia reveal traditional ceremonies and rituals, ancestor worship, and the power and status of their former owners.
