Event Information:

Celebrate the diversity of Hawaii’s art and culture with the Hawai‘i Art Now exhibition, art activities, and entertainment.

Entertainment:

11am-3pm: Frank and Bob Finger Puppets: Create a finger puppet out of modeling clay with artist Fae Yamaguchi. Her video in Hawai‘i Art Now incorporates puppets, and features characters Frank the Horse and Bob the Bird. Children may choose to make Frank or Bob—or perhaps an interesting relative—and start their career as puppeteers.

11am-3pm: Monoprint Fun: Create your own one-of-a-kind monoprint using a variety of drawing and stamping techniques. Fun for all ages!

Noon-12:50pm: Students from Akala Dance Studio spread the spirit of aloha with a performance of hula and Tahitian dance. 

1-1:50pm: Mango Season plays island favorites. We encourage you to get up and dance!

2-2:50pm: Professional dancers from Akala Dance Studio grace the stage and lawn. They'll perform and teach killer moves.

Create your very own unique, one-of-a-kind monoprint using a variety
of drawing and stamping techniques - no two prints are alike. Fun for
all ages!

Doodle4Google
Set your kids up at the Doodle4Google station. The theme is "If I could travel in time, I'd visit..." and the Hawai‘i State Winner gets a trip to New York for the final event on May 17, 2012, a t-shirt printed with their doodle on it, and will have his/her  doodle displayed in a special exhibit at the New York Public Library.

Book signing: Amy Novesky, noon-2pm
Nationally known children's book author Amy Novesky will be in the café to sign her brand new book Georgia in Hawai‘i, about famed artist Georgia O'Keeffe's three-month sojourn in the islands in 1939.

 

Drawing Contest:

Congratulations to last month's contest winner, 11-year-old Auryana Emerson from Honolulu. 
Kids (ages 1-17) can enter the monthly drawing contest. The Academy gives contestants a theme and drawing supplies. The winner receives a Family Level membership to the Honolulu Academy of Arts (worth $95), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the Academy website.
