Event:

ArtSpree 2013

Date:

July 21, 2013 10:00am-04:00pm

Location:

Spalding House

Event Information:

ArtSpree is an annual one-day arts festival at Spalding House in lush Makiki Heights. This year marks its 20th anniversary. Families can make a whole day of it, getting immersed in art projects, lounging under trees and taking in dance and music acts, and having a leisurely plein-air lunch.

This year ArtSpree’s focus takes its cue from the upcoming Spalding House exhibition Now Hear This, which explores the kinship of music and art and features works by Joan Miró, Wassily Kandinsky, James Whistler, Onchi Koshiro, Harry Bertoia, Jean Charlot, and Peter Chamberlain. Visitors can experience musical performances, create their own instruments, and learn how to play them. The popular Spalding House Café will feature a special ArtSpree menu with kid-friendly choices (see below).

ArtSpree is generously sponsored by E.M.L. Partners. Additional support provided by Friends of Honolulu Museum of Art, and Starbucks Coffee Company, Whole Foods Market Kahala, and Electric Pencil.

HAVE DOUBLE THE FUN
This summer, for the first time, the Honolulu Museum of Art holds its monthly Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday on the same day. What this means for the public is a double dose of fun, art, performances, and food. Take a free shuttle down the hill!

FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE TO SPALDING HOUSE
ArtSpree is accessible only by shuttle bus—and we make it easy!
Visitors can park for free at Punahou School and hop on a free shuttle bus, which runs continuously between the school and Spalding House from 10am to 4:30pm. Visitors can enter Punahou School through the main gate, located at the corner of Wilder Avenue and Punahou Street.

Shuttles will also run between Spalding House and the Honolulu Museum of Art on Beretania Street. Last shuttle departs Spalding House at 4:15pm.

Public parking and drop-off is prohibited at Spalding House for the duration of ArtSpree. Parking along the streets of the surrounding neighborhood is also not permitted. Visitors who require special assistance can make prior arrangements with Spalding House security by calling 808-526-1322.
