Honolulu Academy of Arts
'Silk Road' information
ARTafterDARK is the Honolulu Academy of Arts' monthly art party organized by a dynamic group of young volunteers dedicated to exploring the arts. The creative mind for this month's ARTafterDARK is Curtis Lee. Thank you to our sponsorship liaison, Malia Wisch.
Join us on a journey down the Silk Road. The Academy courtyards transform into the different regions—from China to India to the Middle East—of the infamous route.
This month is generously sponsored by Tori Richard. Beat the heat! Visit their sponsor table to get your free custom-designed fan.
INDIA (Central Court)
Start the adventure with DJ Nocturna, spinning great dance tunes with Indian Bollywood flavor! Also see the lovely Natalie Phoenix and Kalae Kaina dancing tribal fusion style belly dance with a touch of classical Indian dance, 6-9pm
MEDITERRANEAN (Banyan Courtyard)
Chill-out in our Mediterranean lounge with the soothing sounds of djsilvana and musical accompaniment. 6-8:30pm
CHINA (Luce Pavilion)
Modern Zen Art: See the skillful hand of Andy Lee in action. Not your traditional Chinese brush painter—his style incorporates traditional eastern and modern western aesthetics. It is pop culture rendered in traditional calligraphic brushstrokes.
MIDDLE EAST (Kinau Courtyard)Visit the talented henna artists from Mira Savara Events to get your own henna tattoo.
SOUTHEAST ASIA (Kinau Courtyard)
Don't miss your chance to see and original dance experience. The artists of Giinko Marischino will perform improv Southeast Asian Couture dances. Performance times at 6:30pm, 7:30pm and 8:15pm.
Continue your travels inside the galleries with another exciting art hunt. Your Gallery Silk Road journey begins in Central Court. One lucky person will be randomly selected on Monday, September 27th to WIN a 1-year Individual Honolulu Academy of Arts Membership (valued at $55). Don't forget to drop off your hunt forms in Kinau Courtyard by 8:30pm to enter to win!
Spotlight Gallery: Go on a docent-led zip tour of our major fall exhibition, Four Thousand Years of Southeast Asian Art (Henry R. Luce Gallery (28)). On view will be approximately 150 works of art from Thailand and Cambodia, many of which have never been displayed at the museum.
