Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday event information

The nonprofit organization Alliançe Française promotes French language and culture around the world, and the Honolulu chapter of the group takes over the Honolulu Academy of Arts July 17 for a Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday with a decidedly French accent.

Visitors can take part in an interactive theater activity, practice their French—or learn their first French words, follow hula in French, taste crêpes, play a round of pétanque and making Mardi Gras masks and Impressionist bookmarks.

The museum’s Doris Duke Theatre will screen the hand-drawn, animated caper A Cat in Paris at 11:10am and 1pm. Admission is $3 for adults and $1.

Orvis Artist in Residence Robert Reed will be in Gallery 30 working on his installation—miniature golf course unlike any seen before. It is a statement on modern consumerism and his personal family story.

Whole Foods will be back, this time selling French-influenced dishes.

Drawing contest:

Congratulations to last month's contest winner, Alienor Mercier, 11 years old.

Kids (ages 1-17) can enter the monthly drawing contest. The Academy gives contestants a theme and drawing supplies. The winner receives a Family Level membership to the Honolulu Academy of Arts (worth $95), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the Academy website.
