Explore the exhibition Lethal Beauty: Samurai Weapons and Armor! Helmets like the one pictured above were the inspiration for Darth Vader's helmet in Star Wars.
Note: Activities end at 3pm
Dress like a samurai: Ever wondered what it’s like to be a samurai? Create your own armor out of paper, yarn and ribbon, then complete the set with an eyecatching kabuto (helmet) and mon (family crest).
11:15am-Noon: Taiko Center of the Pacific Youth Group
This thunderous taiko troupe includes children as young as 5 years old!
12:15-1pm: Kenshikan Kendo Club
Watch kendo masters demonstrate this centuries-old martial art of traditional swordsmanship.
1-1:30pm: Pacific Buddhist Academy
The sound of taiko drums continues as Pacific Buddhist Academy students take the stage with a dazzling self-choreographed performance.
1:45-2:30pm: Nakasone Dance Academy
Get in the spirit with Okinawan dances ranging from traditional songs to modern and upbeat min’yo (folk tunes).
11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm + 2:30pm
Join Susie Roth as she reads children's books and performs magic tricks.
FAMILY FILM SUNDAY
We screen Short and Sweet, three films about a dancing teddy bear, pixies at play and other lovely creatures.
Congratulations to last month's contest winner, eight-year-old Tyler Benn from Honolulu!
Kids (ages 1-17) can enter the monthly drawing contest. The Honolulu Museum of Art gives contestants a theme and drawing supplies. The winner receives a Family Level membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art (worth $95), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the Museum's website.
