Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday event information

Explore the exhibition Art Deco Hawai‘i through a gallery hunt, then design a mini longboard and make an ‘ulī‘ulī. See artists working on murals that will be installed at firehouses around O‘ahu.

Note: activities end at 3pm.

Create an Art Deco design: Get inspiration from the exhibition Art Deco Hawaiʻi, then decorate your own mini cardboard longboard using stencils and a template to create an art deco masterpiece.

Make an ‘ulī‘ulī: During festive Boat Days, passengers arriving at Honolulu Harbor in the Art Deco heyday were greeted by festive performers. Craft an ‘ulī‘ulī (a feathered-gourd percussion instrument) and shake it along to music—keep a steady beat!

Live art: The Honolulu Fire Department holds its second annual Mural Painting Event at Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday! See students from Oʻahu schools paint 24 four-by eight-foot murals illustrating the 2014 Fire Prevention Week theme "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!" The murals will be on view at firehouses island wide during Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 5-11.

Tour a firetruck: A Honolulu Fire Department firetruck will be parked in front of the museum—ready to be explored! And the HFD’s mobile Keiki Fire Safety House will be at the Honolulu Museum of Art School across the street.
