About the Film:
Directed by Ron Fricke, USA, 1992. 96 mins
Ron Fricke broke new ground with this transcendent visual meditation, a follow-up to Godfrey Reggio's non-verbal documentary film Koyaanisqatsi, on which Fricke was the cinematographer. Baraka is a tour-de-force in 70mm: a cinematic "guided meditation" (Fricke's own description) shot in 25 countries on six continents that unites religious ritual, the phenomena of nature, and man's own destructive powers.
Special guest at 7:30pm screening: Bob Green will introduce the film at 7.30pm. Green is a screenwriter, retired assistant professor, and journalist. He taught at the University of Hawai‘i and Pacific New Media for 20 years, and is a writer for Honolulu Weekly. He was co-writer for Baraka and consultant for Samsara. His current project is the non-verbal film Parabola.
