About the Film:

Presented by Hawaii People’s Fund

Hawai‘i People’s Fund, a community-based public foundation, has organized Hawai‘i’s first major public screening of the profound, important feature film The Land of Eb.

Directed by Andrew Williamson, USA, 2012, 87 mins

Living in the stark volcanic landscape of Ocean View, one of Hawai‘i Island’s most remote communities, Jacob, a Marshallese immigrant father and grandfather, struggles to provide for his large family. Jacob turns a small video camera on himself and begins to record his story—and that of his people.

A hauntingly beautiful affirmation of family, The Land of Eb brings full circle the consequences of man’s destructive nature and lasting effects of the nuclear age with the honor and dignity of love tinged with hope.

The Star Advertiser’s Burl Burlingame calls the film “extraordinary on almost every level…a rare film that celebrates the dignity of hard work, as well as the tenuous connections of cultural legacy in a fragmented community. At the heart of it all is Jonithen Jackson’s subtle…performance as Jacob.”
