This documentary about professional skateboarder Danny Way is a thrilling ride. Way went from being a kid from a broken home in Vista, Calif., to being called “the greatest skateboarder ever” by Men’s Journal. The film chronicles how a passion for skateboarding brought bring him and his creation—the MegaRamp—across many cultural and ideological boundaries to attempt the impossible: jump China’s Great Wall on a skateboard in 2005.
About Gathr: The Waiting for Lightning screenings are organized via Gathr, a new service that allows you to bring the movies you want to a venue near you. Movies are meant to be seen in a theater with a crowd, so Gathr screenings happen only when a minimum number of people reserve tickets before a screening request expires. When enough people reserve tickets to a screening, the screening takes place. What do you want to see? Log on to Gathr and make it happen at the Doris Duke Theatre.
