About the Film:
Narrated by former Black Flag front man and D.C. native Henry Rollins, this high-energy documentary explores Washington, D.C.’s fervent 1980s cultural and political scenes through the eyes of graffiti legend Cool “Disco” Dan. Blending exclusive interviews with local and national celebrities, rare archival footage and insightful commentary, graffiti historian Roger Gastman and filmmaker Joseph Pattisall offer the most comprehensive portrait to date on this critical decade in urban culture. From the development of Go-Go, D.C.’s distinctive style of urban music, to racial tensions, crews, sensationalist media, crack, and graffiti, The Legend of Cool “Disco” Dan tells the unknown stories of the “other” Washington, D.C., and the artists and musicians who lived and shaped it.
