About the Film:

Directed by Hirokazu Koreeda. 2013. Japan. 121 mins. Japanese with English subtitles.

When successful Tokyo architect Ryota (Masaharu Fukuyama) discovers that his six-year-old son Keita was switched with another child at birth, two very different families are thrown together—and each must make a life-changing decision. Ryota works long hours to provide for his wife, Midori (Machiko Ono), and son, but when the switch comes to light he is forced to confront his own issues of responsibility and to re-evaluate what it means to be a father. Powerfully written, acted and directed, Like Father, Like Son extends the Japanese cinema tradition of familial exploration to deliver a gentle, moving, even playful, story of personal redemption. A hit at HIFF 2013.

Winner of six Japanese Film Academy Awards (Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress). Winner: Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival; Best Film and Best Director, Asia-Pacific Film Festival; Audience Choice Awards, San Sebastián,, São Paulo and Vancouver International Film Festivals
