About the Film:
Directed by Michel Gondry. 2013. France. 125 mins French & English with English subtitles
Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris star in the latest from Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), a visionary and charmingly surreal love story based on Boris Vian’s cult 1947 novel L’Ecume des jours (Foam of the Daze). Wealthy bachelor Colin (Duris), whose hobbies include developing his pianocktail (a cocktail-making piano) and devouring otherworldly dishes prepared by his trusty chef Nicolas (Omar Sy, The Untouchables), attends a friend’s party in hopes of falling in love. He soon meets Chloé (Tautou) and, before they know it, they’re dancing to Duke Ellington and plunging headfirst into a rapturous romance. Their whirlwind romance is tested when an unusual illness plagues Chloé; a flower begins to grow in her lungs.
Official Selection: Karlovy Vary Film Festival. Winner: Best Production Design, 2014 César Awards.
