About the Film:
The Old, the Young & the Sea
Directed by Mario Hainzl & Andreas Jaritz . Austria | Spain | Portugal | France. 2013. 90 mins
The Old, the Young & the Sea takes you along the Atlantic Coast of France, Spain and Portugal to meet the people who inhabit, visit, surf and protect these European shores. Beginning in the South of France with a gardener who finds himself caught between being a family man and a surf extremist, the movie dives into the history of surfing in Europe, told by the very first surfers of Spain—now old, humble men. Along the way, we meet everyone from a marionette player living without electricity, to a professional stuntman, to an everyday Spanish fisherman and an environmental activist. A vivid snapshot of Europe's post-modern coastal culture, The Old, the Young & the Sea captures the diversity of European life through stories of the continent’s surfers.
Source to Sea
Directed by Matt Crocker. UK. 2014. 3 mins
A group of passionate surfers embark on an unusual voyage. They plan to paddle 175 miles along the longest river in Britain, the infamous River Severn, on vessels more commonly associated with turquoise Hawaiian seas—inflatable stand-up paddle boards. The team tracks the mighty river from its source in mountainous Wales to its vast muddy mouth in the Bristol Channel. Introduced by Mickey Munoz.
