About the Lecture:
Opening HOT's new year-round season, Die Fledermaus is one of the most loved works in the theater's repertoire. Set in late-19th-century Vienna, the story is a love triangle between Rosalinda, her old flame Alfred, and her husband Eisenstein. It's a comedy steeped in the conventions of the time—a masked ball, a flashy pocket watch, and a bit of jail time bring the charade to a hilarious close.
This production will feature a new English translation by Henry Akina, General/Artistic Director of Hawaii Opera Theatre as well as the stage director for this production. Join us for an in-depth discussion of the music, text, and history of the work followed by a conversation with Akina and the principal artists from Die Fledermaus. Free to HOT and HMA Members. $3 General Admission.
