About the Lecture:

Musicologist Lynne Johnson will lead a lecture on the opera, Dialogues of the Carmelites by Francis Poulenc.  Learn more about the story, background, anecdotes, and rumor about this operatic masterpiece.  The lecture will include a question and answer session with select cast members.

Lynne Johnson is Chairman of the Honolulu Museum of Art's Board of Trustees. Johnson received her MA in Musicology in 2001 and her PhD in Musicology in 2009 from the University of Hawaiʻi, where she teaches music appreciation. From 2004 to 2006, as part of UH's Outreach College, she presented highlights of the Honolulu Symphony's upcoming season. She also gives opera previews though Hawaiʻi Pubic Radio and presents "lanai lectures" preceding Hawaiʻi Opera Theater performances at Blaisdell Concert Hall. As a community volunteer, she serves as a trustee on the boards of the Honolulu Symphony Foundation, Hawaiʻi Opera Theater, and Hawaiʻi Public Radio.

About Dialogues of the Carmelites:
Paris, 1789: Blanche, the daughter of the Marquis de la Force, is a nervous young woman often shaken by life's turns. She enters the Carmelite convent to find peace from her worries...and learns the meaning of true friendship and sacrifices of faith.
