About the Performance:
Born and raised on O‘ahu and now living and working in California, iconic dance educator/dancer/choreographer/performance artist and memoirist Simeon Den, performs live readings and dances of his recent hilarious and poignant works that depict his youth growing up in 1950 and 1960s Kalihi. Look out for special guest appearances.
This performance is the culmination of Zen Brushwork and Chi Energy, a three-day Zen brushpainting workshop co-taught with Andy Kay at the Honolulu Museum of Art School. Simeon Den is an interdisciplinary artist and educator, who was professionally trained in New York at the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham schools, and has studied and taught dance, yoga, and meditation for more than 40 years. He has performed internationally and on the Broadway stage with such luminaries as Shirley MacLaine, Rudolf Nureyev, Lena Horne, and Yul Brynner, and the legendary directors Hal Prince and Jerome Robbins. He owned and operated dance and fitness studios and award-winning restaurants in Hawai‘i for 17 years and trained many of the island's current leading dance instructors. He is also the author of 8 Meditations on Urban Life.
