About the Performance:

As the basis of her new one-woman show, When Strangers Meet, Hereniko draws upon her film adventures. In the resulting show, a film festival director travels looking for films, but it's what she discovers beyond the screen that shatters her illusions of the world—and herself.

Jeannette Paulson Hereniko is probably best known as the Founding Director of the Hawai‘i International Film Festival, a position she held from 1981 to 1996. She is also the Founding Director of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which she started in 1990 with Sonny Bono. She's been a jury member for international film festivals such as Berlin, Singapore, Hanoi, Mumbai, and Manila, and is a founding board member of NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asia Pacific Cinema). Currently she is a film producer, owner of AsiaPacificFilms.com, and a film curator for Alexander Street.
