About the Performance:
Scholars Tiffany Ing and Kamana Beamer will discuss King Kalākaua’s approach to statecraft, which was built on aloha ‘āina (love of land, love of country) for the purpose of protectinng Hawaiʻi’s sovereignty during a time of colonial conquest. The discussion will be moderated by Interim Director of Curatorial Affairs and Curator, Arts of Hawai‘i, Oceania, Africa and the Americas, Healoha Johnston.
