Tuesday May 13 02:30 PM Thursday May 15 02:30 PM
Honolulu Museum of Art
Explore the exhibition Chen Qiulin: The Empty City with docent Catherine Levinson. Since 2001, contemporary artist Chen Qiulin (b.1975) has used performance art, photography and video installations to highlight the cultural effects of the construction of the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtse River in Sichuan, her home province in southwestern China, where she still lives. Through her installations she explores the nostalgia for her partially submerged hometown, the effects of rapid change, and the hope for a better quality of life. The tour is followed by an art discussion over a glass of iced tea in the café.
Free with museum admission.
