The book covers the harvesting of lacquer and its use for over 1,500 years as an artistic medium despite its toxic and allergenic properties. Also covered are the evolution of techniques, symbolism and design. The tour will feature the Honolulu Museum of Art's stunning examples of Japanese lacquer ware. Led by docent Debbie brocken.
The museum's Book Club tour is a two-hour docent-led experience. Books are selected to connect with the museum’s works of art. Participants discuss the book in a relevant gallery.
