This monthlong spotlight on Japanese film brings the best of old and new. We honor one of the cornerstones of Japanese filmmaking with a nostalgic look at samurai epics, including the Samurai Trilogy starring the inimitable Toshiro Mifune. Anime, a unique Japanese export, gets a spotlight with a Satoshi Kon Tribute. However individual tastes may differ, this month showcases the worldwide appeal of Japanese cinema.

Opening-night reception: Oct 1, 6-7:30pm: Join us as we kick off a month of Japanese cinema with live painting demonstrations, koto music by Darin Miyashiro, and pūpū by EAT Honolulu. See the menu. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar, featuring shochu by iichiko. Miss Hokusai screens at 7:30pm. $25 general admission | $20 museum members.
