Description:
Most of Bartlett's images of Kashmir depict Dal Lake, which is probably represented in this watercolor, as well. Bartlett's Japanese publisher, Watanabe Shözaburö, based the designs for Japanese woodblock prints on his watercolors, including the two prints of Kashmir also on display in this gallery. Reflections and the effects of light on the water are often a primary interest in Bartlett's art, but the effect is rather different in the watercolor and woodblock print mediums, making for an interesting comparison between these three works.
