View of Honolulu from Punchbowl

Island Depicted - OahuSubject: Landscape UrbanA view of Waikiki -- hardly inhabited by houses, primarily swamplands still -- the bare slopes of Diamond Head, and the beaches and ocean with a single tall-masted ship in the far background, as seen from Punchbowl. In the foreground are the remains of lava rock fortifications with four canons and a Hawaiian flag flying at full height. A small wooden shack with laundry hanging in front and a solitary female figure gazing out at the view complete the scene. The frame is painted to imitate "tiger"-stripe grain at the rim and a burled texture on the concave inner plane.
