The Honolulu Museum of Art School’s annual sale of work by instructors and students, to benefit its studio facilities, opens Nov 17, and runs Friday through Sunday until Nov 26, with new items being added to the sale daily.

The Honolulu Museum of Art School runs studios for metal work, ceramics, glass fusion, and weaving, which aren’t cheap to operate. Every year the students and artists who use the facilities sell their creations and generously offer 30 to 100 percent of their proceeds to the school to help maintain the studios. Celebrating its eleventh year running, the benefit sale is a great source of one-of-a-kind holiday gifts.

On sale will be 2,500 items by nearly 100 artists. The Art School can’t put them all on view at once, so new items will be added as space opens up—so it’s worth making repeat visits. Participating artists include Brenda Ching, Andy Cole, Ashley Huang, Bud Spindt, Liz Train, Michiyo Uchibori, Kaori Vaughn, and Jon Vongvichai.

Cases and tables feature jewelry from the metals studio; glass sculpture, plates, containers, and jewelry; baskets and weaving from the textile studio; and ceramic sculpture, plates, sake containers and cups, ikebana containers, vases, cups, and beads.

In conjunction with the Honolulu Printmakers’ Impressions Print and Book Fair, also held at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, the Holiday Art Sale will be opened for extended hours featuring pūpū and printmaking demos. Both events are a chance to meet the artists behind the work on sale.
