Wooden It Be Nice
January 18, 2015 11:00am-05:00pm
Honolulu Museum of Art
Explore the exhibition Conversations with Wood: A Gift of Contemporary Wood Works from the Collection of Ruth and David Waterbury, then create a wood sailboat with a paper sail, and decorate a wood medallion to commemorate your voyages.
Make a sailboat: Create a stylish sailboat out of wood and paper—get crazy with the trim!
Make a wood medallion: Turn a wood disc fashioned from driftwood collected at Magic Island into a handsome medallion using a glue-resist technique with stain. Kids use Elmer's glue to draw a design or use pre-cut stencils on the wood. When the glue is dry they apply a coat of stain then peel off the glue. They string it on a cord and wear it around their neck!
Draw an “exquisite corpse”: Take part in a three-person activity to each draw a head, body, and legs and feet of what is called an “exquisite corpse.” Your creation may be selected to hang in the exhibition Exquisite Corpse!
