Honolulu Museum of Art
Celebrate Okinawan culture at HoMA!
Activities end at 2pm, but the museum remains open free of charge until 4:30pm.
• Kids can make shisa (doglike mythological guardians against evil) out of clay and create their own Okinawan language flashcards.
• Learn about Okinawan culture with members of Ukwanshin Kabudan! Make hachimaki (headbands), practice counting in Okinawan, play a fun game of "go fish," and explore family roots at a genealogy table.
Enjoy live music and dance performances throughout the day featuring artists and performers from Ukwanshin Kabudan and the Young Okinawans of Hawaii.
FAMILY FILM SUNDAY
Lu Over the Wall: 10:30am + 1pm. Free. From visionary anime auteur Masaaki Yuasa comes a joyously hallucinogenic—and family-friendly—take on the classic fairy tale about a little mermaid who comes ashore. But in this version, the mermaid joins a middle-school rock band and propels them to fame.
Enjoy our full-service Sunday brunch menu at the Café from 11am-2pm. Reservations are recommended: 808-532-8734.
DOUBLE THE FUN
Take a shuttle bus to the museum’s free Family Day at Spalding House in Makiki Heights for more art and fun.
Open to kids age 1 to 17, the contest station features drawing supplies where participants create a drawing based on a theme.
The winner receives a Supporting Membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art ($100 value), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the museum's website.
Congratulations to last month's winner, Haruta Kondo, age 9, from Diamond Head!
