Explore the exhibition Identify Yourself and discover the cultural histories that have been recorded on textiles. Kids can make textile art inspired by their own cultural identities.Take a docent-led tour through the Arts of the Philippines Gallery and explore Filipino culture with live dance and music performances.
ART ACTIVITIES
• You're framed!: Get your portrait taken in the Photo Ops booth then make a frame, customized with colors and shapes, for your photograph!
• Supah sipa: Make a sipa—the Filipino version of a hackysack—and learn how to play the game.
• Drawing Contest: Kids ages 1 to 17 are encouraged to enter! The museum gives contestants a theme and drawing supplies. The winner receives a Supporting Membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art ($100 value), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the museum's website.
ENTERTAINMENT
11-11:50am: Hannah and Harrison • Join these singer-songwriters for acoustic tunes.
Noon-1pm: Movement Center members give ballet, hip hop, musical theater, tumbling and rhythmic gymnastic performances. TMC Dance Company, Jr. Dance Company, and Music Makers also perform.
1:30-2:15pm: The Filipino Community Center's Banda Kawayan play Filipino folk and pop tunes on traditional bamboo instruments.
