Learn about hula, lauhala, and make royal orders inspired by Ho‘oulu Hawai‘i: The King Kalākaua Era!
Activities end at 2pm, but the museum remains open free of charge until 4:30pm.
ART ACTIVITIES
• Lauhala Weaving: Learn how to make fish and stars out of lauhala with Ulana Me Ka Lokomaika‘i.
• Royal Orders: Visit Ho‘oulu Hawai‘i: The King Kalākaua Era to see the Royal Orders and then make your own to wear.
ENTERTAINMENT
11am-12pm: Pua Ali‘i ‘Ilima performs with kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine and Jeff Takamine.
12:30-1:15pm: Families are invited to join hula dancers to learn basic hula.
FAMILY FILM SUNDAY
20th Annual Animation Show of Shows: 11am + 1pm. Free. Enjoy 15 thought-provoking, poignant, and funny animated shorts from six countries—including six student films.
SUNDAY BRUNCH

DOUBLE THE FUN
Take a shuttle bus to the museum’s free Family Day at Spalding House in Makiki Heights for more art and fun.
DRAWING CONTEST
Open to kids age 1 to 17, the contest station features drawing supplies where participants create a drawing based on a theme.
The winner receives a Supporting Membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art ($100 value), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the museum's website.
