In this period film, 13-year-old Fanny and her sisters are sent from their home in Nazi-occupied France to a foster home for Jewish children In Italy. When the Nazis arrive in Italy, the school mistress (Cécile de France in a tour-de-force performance) pulls out all the stops to get her charges to the Swiss border.
