About the Film:

Directed by Lynne Ramsay. United Kingdom | France | United States. 2017. 90 mins.

Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor Award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for his portrayal of a traumatized veteran who works as a contract killer in this adaption of Jonathan Ames’ novella of the same name. When a job spins out of control, Joe's nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening. Lynne Ramsay has made an art of disturbing character studies such as We Need to Talk About Kevin and Morvern Callar. And with this film she is back in spades. The film also won for Best Screenplay at Cannes.

“[Director Ramsay's] return seals her standing as one of our most fearless and forceful filmmakers, if not one as prolific as she deserves to be.” - Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times.
