Artists—like scientists—study materials, people, culture, history, technology...and transform information into art. This class focuses on selected topics in Western Art history and how artists connect and respond to new technical developments.

Topics include:
Leonardo and the Renaissance
Dürer and the Printing-press
Maria Sibylla Merian and natural sciences
Impressionism/Postimpressionism and light
Modern and Contemporary artists

Workshop includes lectures, a museum visit and art making.

Supply list: Sketchbook; pencils 2B, 4B, 6 B, ink pen (black); pencil sharpener (with container); ruler; eraser (hard and soft); watercolor pencils; watercolor paper; brushes; watercolors; any other materials you would like to work with.
