About this Class:
In this repeatable class, the teacher works with students to develop an impeccable ability to draw what they see. A classical method of instruction will be employed throughout: making "sight-size" drawings (precise and proportional copying) from the artist Charles Bargue's lithographs. This is an educational method with a long tradition, and one still used by classical ateliers all around the world.
Instructor Jan Dickey draws upon his training at the Academy of Classical Design in Southern Pines, NC, to cultivate an ability in students to better see value and shape, and render those things with pencil and paper.
Students will work at their own pace, and will graduate on to new projects personally selected for them from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course as they complete assignments. Students may continue to enroll in this course and receive new assignments based on what they have completed previously.
The class will visit the museum galleries to study the collection for inspiration and to learn about art-making processes.
