About this Class:

This course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about painting techniques and concepts, with an emphasis on the understanding of its formal language and the fundamentals of creative expression. Previous painting experience is not necessary, however, those with a painting background are encouraged to enroll to continue their artistic development.

We will work with acrylic paint and explore the ways this medium can be utilized. Youʻll learn a wide array of painting techniques, along with preparation of materials, color theory, light, composition and perspective. Lectures and slideshows cover major painting styles, developments and theories. You will work on shorter, in-class paintings as well as longer, extended pieces. Painting from still life and observation will be the means of developing technique, but we will move through various approaches to painting, including abstraction and non-representation. Group and individual critiques will be given throughout the course.
