About this Class:

Students will learn to work at high temperatures in a hot kiln with System 96 glass to manipulate and comb glass strips into beautiful free-flowing designs and patterns. Glass selection, strip cutting and strip-set preparation for the manipulation process will be explored as well as tools appropriate for this “hot” glass technique. Firing schedules, safety and kiln configuration will be presented in relation to “hot” glass manipulation. Students will create two 6”x 6” combed tiles using two different techniques. To showcase these beautiful designs, creative finishing techniques will be discussed including border selection and creation, jewelry designs and using sliced, combed elements as embellishments in other fused glass projects. Previous fused glass experience is recommended.
