In this workshop you will learn the basics of how to cut windows in mats, build conventional and shadow box frames, and construct portfolio structures for prints or works on paper. Participants will walk away with two framed prints and a hand-built portfolio. Instructor will perform all wood cutting procedures; no woodworking experience is necessary. This workshop is designed for printmakers who are interested in taking control of the presentation of their work. Participants need to provide their own small to medium sized work – roughly 11” x 15” or smaller – which they would like to frame. Topics and procedures covered: Material selection and preparation, Archival considerations, Mat cutting, Paper preparation and mounting, Frame milling (demo only), Frame mitering (demo only), Frame joining and assembly, Frame finishing, Shadow box frame construction, Acrylic and sheet glass cutting, Basic portfolio building
