About this Class:
Explore the basics of chine collé, including methods of gluing and printing with traditional Japanese papers. Students will also be encouraged to experiment with collage, layering, and found paper ephemera to create unique prints. This is an introductory course, and no previous experience is required. The course has a lot to offer for more experienced members as well, who are welcome to bring in existing plates to work with.
This class will visit the museum galleries to study the collection for inspiration.
Several small containers for water/paste
Various wide/flat paintbrushes
Small copper plate
Drypoint tool/etching needle
X-acto blades with handle, #11 or #16
Rubber/nitrile gloves (optional)
Blue painter’s tape
Japanese papers – variety of fibers/weights
Heavy printmaking papers – Rives BFK, Arches
Other paper ephemera – old book pages, maps, recycled prints, newspaper, magazine pages, photos, etc.
(optional) Botanical objects – leaves, feathers, dried flowers
Clean large sponge
Polyester lithography plate
