About this Class:

Carrying Culture: Micronesia - Workshop for K-12 Educators 
(PDE3 section number to be announced)
Explore Micronesian culture through this engaging workshop with the Honolulu Museum of Art. In it you will learn how to integrate the arts with social studies and Common Core literacy standards; and you will take away concrete projects and resources that you can use with your students. Participants will: 
  • Develop strategies and understandings to better meet the needs of Micronesian students and families
  • Learn through art-making
  • Enjoy a day of Micronesian art, performances and food at the Honolulu Museum of Art's Celebrate Micronesia Festival
  • Learn about the Micronesian experience in Hawaii through film and conversations with Micronesians
  • Develop a repertoire of active-learning strategies for working with informational texts 
  • Learn how to facilitate inquiry-based learning with primary resources and artifacts

A mandatory two-hour meeting to share progress on developing lesson plans will be scheduled for sometime in April. The exact time and date will be set during the March 17 - 19 workshop.

3 PD credits upon successful participation in all sessions of the workshop and completion of a learning portfolio.
Once you have registered through this website, we will reserve your spot and add you to the PDE3 roster.
