Making & Using the Hohoa Beater • TXDT173W70

One of the tools used in the making of kapa is the round hohoa beater, which is used for beating the wauke bark after it has been stripped off the tree. Students will be provided with a partially shaped blank of wood on which to continue carving, sanding and oiling. Class members will also get a length of wauke tree to try stripping and beating. They will also learn the correct stones and protocol information to gather the stone anvil or kua pohaku that is used with the hohoa.

Supply Fee: $50 supply fee paid to instructor
