In this 5-week course, we will explore the art of self-publishing and bookmaking, beginning with a collaborative, DIY-style zine and progressing to handcrafted artist books. Meeting once a week, we will start by creating a communal zine using fast, accessible techniques such as drawing, collage, and text. From there, we will transition to individual projects, experimenting with monoprinting and collage to design and assemble unique accordion books.
Through hands-on demonstrations and creative exploration, students will learn the fundamentals of book arts, including sequencing imagery, visual storytelling, and basic bookbinding techniques. Whether you’re interested in zines as a medium for self-expression or want to develop a one-of-a-kind artist book, this course provides the tools and inspiration to bring your ideas to life. All levels are welcome—no prior experience needed!
Please note there will be no class on August 1. Don’t wait—registration closes on August 16.
