This eight-week introductory class provides in-depth instruction on the technical and conceptual aspects of forming sheet metal, a modern metalsmithing essential to making jewelry. Potential projects and techniques include traditional use of the jeweler’s saw, hammer texture, tool stamping, roller mill embossing, beginning soldering, basic stone setting, and surface finishing. Nonprecious metals, such as brass and copper, and tools are included with tuition. Visits to explore the museum's collection will support lessons and provide inspiration for your work. This course is great for someone with no metals experience or who would like to brush up on their metalsmithing skills. No prior knowledge of metalwork or jewelry making is required.

Please note that there will be no class on Nov. 30.

Registration for this class closes on Oct. 5.
