October-December: Evoking Divinity

HoMA’s collection includes numerous examples of art made expressly for spiritual purposes, relating to religions that formed millennia ago, but which continue to be relevant and practiced around the world today. This tour takes visitors inside the galleries to examine some of these works, and note the very different strategies they reveal for connecting with the divine. We will consider how it might have looked, sounded, and felt to engage with such objects in their original contexts, and talk about how these approaches helped people relate to the sacred.

Gather at the main entrance for a 45- to 60-minute tour.

This tour will be visiting galleries 23, 26, 16, 2.

Tours are free to join with museum admission.

Subject to group size restrictions and gallery occupancy limits. Due to unpredictable COVID conditions, tours are subject to last-minute cancellation.
