About the Film:

Presented by Hawaii News Now.

Hawaii News Now unveils a film that documents the aftermath of the 2018 Kilauea eruption. It’s been nearly a year since volcanic fissures opened up across parts of Hawai'i Island’s lower east rift zone, destroying hundreds of homes and forever changing the landscape of lower Puna. The lava no longer flows, but for those who still live and work in neighborhoods from Pahoa to Kapoho, the challenges remain aplenty. Hawaii News Now's newest installment in the documentary series, Pele's Path: The Journey Home, offers a first hand look at the stories of resilience and recovery that detail how those who have been impacted by the eruption are persevering through some of the most challenging times of their lives. The film explores the power of hope in the wake of the 2018 natural disaster that covered nearly 14 square miles of lower Puna in hardened lava rock and added 875 new acres of land to the Hawai'i Island coast.

After the screening, Hawaii News Now will host a talk-story session with news reporters and Puna residents who were impacted by the disaster. The session is designed to offer the audience a look at what it's been like to cover and live through an eruption that has upended lives and left whole swaths of lower Puna unrecognizable.

Admission: Free with RSVP

Doors open at 6:30pm, program starts at 7pm.
