Rebecca Louise Law: Awakening

September 17, 2022–September 10, 2023
Galleries 12 and 13

Hawai‘i’s deep connection to pua—both endemic and imported flowers—was celebrated in a year-long art installation that transformed two museum galleries into immersive floral experiences.

Awakening marked the debut of internationally renowned British artist Rebecca Louise Law in the Islands, who combined her own recycled botanical materials with Hawai‘i floral specimens and other found materials gathered and strung with the help of local community groups. Reflecting Hawai‘i’s singular ecosystem and landscape, this installation invites us to reflect upon the beauty and fragility of nature in today’s world.
