Honolulu Academy of Arts
'Monster Mosh' information
** You're never too old for Halloween! **
HEAR: The 86 List in Central Court 6-8 p.m. and Unity Crayons' Punk Rock Bizarre—featuring Democratic Fistfights, SMITZ and Miss Buddha—in Banyan Court 6-9 p.m.
SEE: Blood Colony, a film by UH student Jacob Holcomb presented by UH's Academy for Creative Media in Kinau Court. It screened at HIFF this year!
WIN: Prizes for best costumes courtesy of CLUB MONACO, the evening's sponsor. So pull out all the stops and get creative! (Sexy cats and covergirl witches won't win the judges over. Cleavage ain't creative.) Wonder how many Sarah Palins will show up. *wink* Here's an idea: Why not come as your favorite Academy work of art? Guan Yin or Lady Meux. Here's a challenge—embody a work in the Decades of Abstraction exhibition.
EAT & DRINK: Food and cocktails by E&O Trading Company
*Thai basil chicken with Szechuan peppercorn sauce and kabocha mash. $8
*Korean BBQ beef with white rice and Thai-style ahi poke. $8
*Miso opakapaka with rice noodles and kai choy (mustard cabbage). $8
*Signature cocktail of the night: The E&O Halloween Mind Eraser—a scary portion of Kahlua topped with Seagram's vodka and effervescence. Available in vanilla, hazelnut, mocha and java. $6.
EXPLORE: The exhibition Decades of Abstraction, along with the Academy's encyclopedic permanent collection—you can go from Ancient Egypt to 21st-century America in one night.
**NOTE** ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS—REAL OR FAKE—are allowed at the Academy. So if you plan on coming as Machine Gun Kelly, leave the plastic prop at home. The same goes for that machete/pitchfork/water gun.
