Celebrate Architecture Month!
Activities end at 2pm, but the museum remains open free of charge until 4:30pm.
• Make a museum: Using a drawing of the museum, kids can be architects by decorating the exterior and interior—itʻs a chance to let their imaginations run wild.
• Shark maquette: Kids can see the sculpture Present in the Past, in the exhibition Abstruction: The Sculpture of Erick Swenson, then design and build their own model of a shark using wood, air-dry clay, and sparkling beads.
AIA Honolulu: Join members from AIA Honolulu as they help kids build mini-houses out of cardboard and decorate the outside with a collage.
Architectural painting: Watch as artist Mark Norseth and a group of plein-air painters work inside the different museum courtyards.
Book swap: Bring a gently used childrenʻs book and pick up a new one for your young reader!
FAMILY FILM SUNDAY
The 19th Annual Animation Show of Shows: 10:30am + 1pm. Free. See 16 exceptional, inspiring animated shorts from around the world—including the Oscar-winning Dear Basketball featuring Kobe Bryant. At a time of increasing social instability and global anxiety about a range of issues, the works in this year’s show have a special resonance, presenting compelling ideas about our place in society and how we fit into the world.
Enjoy our full-service Sunday brunch menu at the Café from 11am-2pm. Reservations are recommended: 808-532-8734.
DOUBLE THE FUN
Take a shuttle bus to the museum’s free Family Day at Spalding House in Makiki Heights for more art and fun.
Open to kids age 1 to 17, the contest station features drawing supplies where participants create a drawing based on a theme.
The winner receives a Supporting Membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art ($100 value), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the museum's website.
Congratulations to last month's winner, Elizabeth Swan, age 11, from Mililani!
