About the Film:

Part of European Cinema 2018.

Directed by Fatih Akin. Germany | France. 2017. 106 min. English, German, and Greek with English subtitles. Starring Diane Kruger.
German-born Diane Kruger won the best actress award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for her role—her first in her mother tongue—in this heart-wrenching drama that was Germany’s submission to the 90th Academy Awards. She plays Katja, whose life falls apart when her husband Nuri, a Kurdish former drug dealer, and son Rocco are killed in a bomb attack. Her friends and family try to give her the support she needs, and Katja somehow manages to make it through the funeral. But the mind-numbing search for the perpetrators and reasons behind the senseless killing complicate Katja’s painful mourning, opening wounds and doubts. Danilo, a lawyer and Nuri’s best friend, represents Katja in the eventual trial against the two suspects: a young couple from the neo-Nazi scene. The trial pushes Katja to the edge, but nothing will stop her quest for justice.
