About the Film:

Part of Bollywood Film Festival 2019.

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. 2006. India. 155 min. Hindi with English subtitles.
The second in director Vishal Bhardwaj’s Shakespeare trilogy of films, Omkara is an award-winning modern adaptation of Othello starring some of the biggest names in Bollywood. Omi (Ajay Devgn) is a bahubali for local politician Tiwari Bhaisaab (Naseeruddin Shah) with his fellow lieutenants Langda (Said Ali Khan, Baazaar) and Kesu Firangi (Vivek Oberoi). When Omi abducts Dolly (Kareena Kapoor) to be his bride, political intrigue and jealousy leads to a tragic climax.

SPOTLIGHT Shakespeare in Bollywood: Also see Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, the Bollywood adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, and Dream(e)scapes, a centerpiece live performance with Shakespearean elements.
