Art for Life

The Honolulu Museum of Art has offered art-making classes for all ages for almost 100 years. Museum staff has witnessed the transformative power of the creative process in fostering community and igniting passion, purpose, and curiosity. By designing a studio class tailored for older adults, HoMA strives to unleash your creativity and self-expression and build a sense of community.

Classes are led by professional teaching artists—working artists skilled in arts education who create welcoming and safe, creative spaces. They have been trained in leading classes for older adults.

What sets Art for Life classes apart from other adult art classes?

Community-building: Social interaction and engagement are built into every session.
Learner based: The class is responsive to what you and your fellow students want to learn.

Student support: Each two-hour class has the assisted support of a teaching assistant and includes an optional final hour of open studio for extended independent worktime on projects.

Reduced tuition: Classes are offered at a reduced rate and include a complimentary parking pass.

Celebration: Classes culminate with an open house, to celebrate your creations with your community.

No experience necessary: If you don’t see the museum as a place for you, or don’t see yourself as creative—please come! This is an opportunity for you to feel the joy of immersing yourself in the process of making.
